Railings on the street, privacy behind
Hertford's Georgian and later streets often want railings on the front and closeboard behind. A suburban panel on a townhouse frontage is the wrong sentence.
We would rather specify a quieter railing and rebuild tired piers than force overlap boards onto a street that still has a period language. Bengeo plots can be sloping; the river meadows ask for posts and gravel boards that understand wet ground.
Conservation judgement matters on the older streets. Height, character, and the neighbour's reverse face all sit in the same survey.
